Overview

A Floating Licence is a licence for CHPS that allows a set number of users to licence CHPS at a given time. The Floating Licence Service must be installed on a server that is accessible to all users to manage the provision of licences to users. A database is used to keep track of users that currently have licences checked out from the service. If all of the allowed licences are checked out then any new users will not be able to run CHPS until a licence becomes free. Licences are automatically checked out when a user launches CHPS and checked in when CHPS is shut down. Licence checkouts are checked periodically to ensure that they remain valid. If a checkout does become invalid CHPS tools will be temporarily disabled until a new checkout is obtained. CHPS elements will remain on the map in the event that a checkout becomes invalid and the user will be able to save their work at any time.

An tool is provided to manage the Floating Licence Service. This tool allows the main licence to be activated and provides an overview of the users that currently have licences checked out. Active checkouts can be cleared using this tool. This tol can be run from any PC that has access to the Floating Licence Service.
